Last Thursday , St Anna’s Greek Orthodox Church Community Hall in Bundall was the wonderful venue for GOC Care’s springtime morning tea with our Gold Coast based clients and staff. We greatly appreciate the tireless efforts of St Anna’s Ladies Auxilliary who provided a delicious and beautifully presented morning tea. Many thanks go to our sponsors Woolworths Broadbeach (Oasis Shopping Centre) for the donations of two celebration cakes and our lucky door prize sponsors, Yopie Stafurik (Gold Coast GOC Care Administration Officer), St Anna’s GOC Ladies Auxilliary, Triton Foods (Brisbane) and GOC Care. Director, Angela Andronis presented an Aged Care Update and a Client Feedback summary report. The main purpose of the event was to celebrate with our clients and their families and to enjoy each other’s company during a very beautiful time of the year that is known for fresh starts and new life. GOC Care thanks our clients and their family carers for trusting us and honouring us with caring for them or their loved ones. Angela welcomed our guests to share their thoughts, ideas, requests and suggestions to assist GOC Care to continue to address and respond to our client’s specific needs and preferences. Home Care Packages Manager, Sandy Colgan was our MC for the day and the Wellness Centre Choir from Brisbane came along to entertain our guests and they did not disappoint. Please enjoy the photos from this most enjoyable event.

Director, Angela Andronis presented an Aged Care Update and a client feedback summary report during her presentation. We caught up with friends, we ate, we sang, we danced, we clapped our hands and we exercised with Aslihan from F3PT and most of all we left for home or back to work, SMILING. A BIG THANK YOU goes to all the generous sponsors who donated sweets, prizes and flowers including The Ladies Philoptichos Society of Brisbane, The Auxilliary of St George, Barbara Mastoros from Grace Inspired and George and Mary Fotinos from Tanos Pharmacy.

On Tuesday , 3rd September GOC Care presented an excellent information session on the Neurological and Psychological Facts about Dementia at our Wellness Centre in Bundall on the Gold Coast, during the St Anna’s Seniors Group meeting. The over 55 seniors and their family carers who attended the talk were very impressed with the quality of the speaker, Dr Nicole Walker (UQ Research Fellow and Psychologist) and her ability to explain a very scientific and challenging topic in plain , easy to understand language. Greek interpreter, Eleni Samios was also applauded for her ability to translate the talk in Greek in such a way that enhanced the listener’s understanding and appreciation of the subject matter. Dr Walker is currently involved in research at the University of Queensland investigating ways to support older people living with dementia and their care partners adjust to life without driving. People interested in contributing to this research project who are over 65+ yrs or may be thinking about stopping driving or have stopped driving please contact : Dr Theresa Scott E: theresa.scott@uq.edu.au or Donna Rooney E: donna.rooney@uq.edu.au or Ph: 07 3365 6392 / 07 3443 2546

On Wednesday, 31st July, GOC Care presented a Diabetes Information Session for the general community and GOC Care clients. Consultant Pharmacist, Emmanuel Pippos delivered a very informative and eye-opening presentation regarding prevention and the management of diabetes at home. GOC Care’s Clinical Care Coordinator, Denita Kingsley, explained her role and how she is available to assist clients who have been approved a Home Care Package to achieve optimal health and to manage their medications safely. We had a full-house which is an indication of how many people are affected by diabetes and the significant impact it has in their lives ( every day 60 Queenslanders are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes alone, not including Type 1 and gestational diabetes) www.diabetesqld.org.au/about-diab…/diabetes-Information.aspx There is so much to consider once you have been diagnosed with diabetes that it can be very overwhelming.
